Unpublished E-Cig Use Experiences from Smokefree.gov

Forum Post 1)

From Webmaster redacted - Courtesy of your trusted federal government (via a FOIA request), here are hundreds of quit stories submitted to Smokefree.gov that were later deleted for not being “science based.”

Since the time of my FOIA, their original message (where I believe they said that they would delete posts that were not “science based”) has been changed to “(*) Posts which advocate the use of non-FDA approved nicotine products may be removed.”

Edit: Just to be clear, my recollect is that the site originally had no disclaimer about deleted posts. After they started deleted posts, they added the “science based” (or something to that extent). Once I submitted my FOIA, it was changed to “non-FDA approved nicotine products”.

BTW, it appears that we far more ex-smokers turned vapers posted stories to this page than ex-smokers who quit with other methodshttp://smokefree.gov/journey

FOIA request filed January 20, 2014

From Webmaster redacted -

It was some time between 1-24-14 and 1-31-14 that they changed it to “non-FDA approved”.

This is an early warning, “The information presented in these stories is based on the experience of individual smokers and does not represent NCI’s position or policy.”

Later, “The information presented in these stories is based on the experience of individual smokers and does not represent NCI’s position or policy. (*)Any posts, including information that is not scientifically proven, may be removed.”

Now, “The information presented in these stories is based on the experience of individual smokers and does not represent NCI’s position or policy. (*) Posts which advocate the use of non-FDA approved nicotine products may be removed.”
